The City has hired BKF Engineers to design the Oak Park Boulevard and Monticello Avenue Improvement Project.  Oak Park Boulevard will be widened (along the north side) between the East Bay Municipal Utility District trail and the western edge of the existing library property in order to accommodate new turn lanes, bike lanes and a new traffic signal at the Oak Park Boulevard/Monticello Avenue intersection.  Monticello Avenue will be completely reconstructed between Oak Park Boulevard and Santa Barbara Road.  It will serve as the grand entryway to the new Pleasant Hill Library, Recreation & Park sports fields, residential housing, and Pleasant Hill Middle School.  When completed, the project will provide wider sidewalks, bicycle lanes, utility upgrades, drought tolerant landscape, and ornamental LED street lighting along Oak Park Boulevard and Monticello Avenue.

The project is funded in part by the City (Measure K and local funds) and fair share contributions from Contra Costa County and the Recreation and Park District.  The total construction cost is estimated at $5.5M.
