District Based Election Process
By-District Election Ordinance Approved July 17
At its July 17, 2023 meeting, the Pleasant Hill City Council approved an ordinance transitioning the City to a by-district election system and adopting a five-district electoral map to be used in future elections.
The approval of the ordinance is the culmination of several months of meetings and discussions centered on creating an electoral district map that would allow the greatest possibility of minority representation on the City Council.
Map #5 (pictured above) was adopted by the Council and will take effect during the 2024 and 2026 election cycles. In 2024, Council Members for Districts 1, 2, and 5 will be elected, while in 2026 Council Members from Districts 3 and 4 will be elected. Following 2026, all elections will be by-district.
This map was chosen out of 11 4 and 5 district maps that had been created by the community. All of the viable maps are available for viewing below.
