Current Vacancies

Vacancies are established when terms expire or when an incumbent leaves the position prior to term expiration. Incumbents may re-apply when their terms expire. Vacancies have or will occur on the following commissions and/or committees:

Commission on Aging

A vacancy will occur on the Commission on Aging.  The Commission considers all matters affecting the aging in the community; provides awareness of resources; and plans, promotes, and participates in events of benefit to the aging population. Experience, training or education in provisions of programs or services to the older population of Pleasant Hill. Term: Completion of unfilled term through April 2023. Deadline for application is Thursday, January 13, 2022.

Iron Horse Corridor Advisory Committee

A vacancy is expected on the Contra Costa County Iron Horse Corridor Advisory Committee due to a term expiration.  The Committee considers matters pertaining to improvements and maintenance of the Iron Horse Corridor, including the Iron Horse Trail.  The committee is comprised of representatives of the City and County jurisdictions that border the corridor. To qualify as a candidate, you must be a resident of Pleasant Hill with an interest in the technical aspects of reviewing contracts and design elements related to improvements and maintenance of the Iron Horse Corridor. The Committee generally meets quarterly at the Walnut Creek library when in person, and currently is meeting via teleconference. Term: A two-year term from February 2022 through January 2024. .Deadline for application is Thursday, January 13, 2022.

John Muir Community Health Fund Board

A vacancy is expected on the John Muir Community Health Fund Board of Directors due to a term expiration.  The Health Fund distributes grants and partners with community-based, nonprofit organizations to create sustainable health initiatives that expand and enhance health care services in central and east Contra Costa County. The Board generally meets meets one to three times per month during business hours either via teleconference or at the Health Fund offices in Concord.. Term: A three-year term through December 2024. .Deadline for application is Thursday, January 13, 2022.

Planning Commission

A vacancy has occurred on the Planning Commission.  The Planning Commission provides recommendations to the City Council on land use, zoning, the general plan, and other policy issues. To qualify as a candidate, you must be a citizen of the United States and a resident of Pleasant Hill for at least one year prior to appointment. The Commission meets on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. at City Hall.* Term: Completion of unfilled term through April 2024.Deadline for application is Thursday, January 13, 2022.

Civic Action Commission

A vacancy has occurred on the Civic Action Commission, and two terms will expire at the end of February. The Civic Action Commission primarily organizes major City events such as Community Service Day and the “Sunset by the Lake” Summer Concerts. Its Diversity subcommittee has held a series of virtual Social Justice conversations.  Candidates may be residents or business persons with a business in Pleasant Hill, or nonresidents living outside the corporate limits but within the City’s sphere of influence, and be able and willing to participate in the planning, setup and cleanup of events and programs encouraging and utilizing active citizen participation in improving the quality of life in the city. Meetings are held on the 1st Wednesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. at City Hall.* There is one vacancy for an unfilled term through April 2023, and two vacancies will occur for four-year terms February 2022 through, January 2026. Application Deadline:  Deadline for application is Wednesday, February 16, 2022.

Measure K Oversight Committee (Chamber of Commerce Member)

Participation on the Measure K Oversight Committee is a way for a busy person to give back to the community with a minimal time commitment. The committee meets two to four times per year, and reviews financial reports to confirm fund expenditures are used towards the new Pleasant Hill library or infrastructure improvements as approved by residents at the November 8, 2016 election.  The seven-member committee meets semi-annually, and the meetings are currently held via teleconference. The specific vacancy available is for a member of the Pleasant Hill Chamber of Commerce, with a business in Pleasant Hill.

Applications and Appointment Process  

The City of Pleasant Hill accepts applications for City Commissions on a continuous basis. When vacancies occur, the Interview and Nominating Committee (Committee), a sub-committee of the City Council, reviews applications and interviews qualified candidates. The Committee forwards a recommendation to City Council for final appointments, unless the position is a County or regional committee or board, in which case a recommendation is forwarded from City Council to the appropriate governing body for final appointment. 

Online applications for City commissions or committees are provided below, and can be submitted at any time for any of the commissions listed on the form or advertised by the City unless stated otherwise, and will be kept on file for up to one year or until the recruitment period is complete.
