The widely anticipated opening of the Pleasant Hill Library is finally here!  Join us from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. on July 30, 2022, as we cut the ribbon and officially open the new Pleasant Hill Library. During the event, we will have opening remarks, followed by ribbon-cutting at approximately 10:30 a.m..  After the ribbon is cut, visitors will be able to tour the facility and see demonstrations of the new amenities in the building, as well as have the opportunity to sign up for a library card.

Where to Park for the Grand Opening:

Due to space restrictions, parking at the library is limited to vendors, disabled placards, and those with Library Guest placards

Pleasant Hill Middle School - 1 Santa Barbara.  Visitors may park at the middle school during the day on Saturday. Both the main parking lot and the auxiliary lot towards the soccer fields.

Pleasant Oaks Park - 2 Santa Barbara Rd.  Visitors may park in the spaces at the park during the day Saturday.

Overflow lot - In the event parking is full, visitors may park in the unpaved (dirt) lot between the library and Pleasant Hill Middle School. We ask that motorists use caution and park in rows that allow ingress/egress to other vehicles.

Due to safety restrictions, the number of people allowed inside will be limited to 600.  However, while you wait there will be plenty to do outside. Activities include:

  • Music by the West African Highlife Band
  • Performances by Circus Bella
  • Disney Princesses Tiana, Belle, Ariel, and Mirabel
  • Learn about local creeks from the Friends of the Creek
  • Scan your library card to be entered into a drawing for a Pleasant Hill Perks Gift Card
  • Enjoy Rooted Coffee and vegan doughnuts provided by Rooted Coffee
  • Fresh water in compostable cups from EBMUD
  • Crafts in the craft tent
  • Starting at 11:00 a.m. the Gran Taco Loco and Ceviche Co. food trucks will be available to purchase a tasty lunch

Once the event has ended, the library will remain open until its normal closing time of 5:00 p.m.

The Pleasant Hill Library is made possible through voter-approved Measure K, a half-cent sales tax approved by voters in 2016 to fund a new library as well as roads, storm drains, and other infrastructure improvements.

It is being built on approximately 5 acres donated by Contra Costa County.

In 2017, the City Council hired the renowned architectural firm, Bohlin Cywinski Jackson, to design the library; Margaret Sullivan Studio played an integral role in the design.

Project management is provided by Swinerton Management and Consulting;  BHM Construction, Inc. is the General Contractor for the construction of the Library.
