City Council to Discuss By-District Elections at July 10 Special Meeting
The Pleasant Hill City Council will hold a special meeting on July 10, 2023, in order to have the first reading of an ordinance transitioning the City from at-large to district-based elections. The ordinance is the result of numerous meetings beginning March 6, 2023, where the City took in feedback from the community to determine how election districts should be drawn out. A total of 11 maps featuring both four and five districts were approved for consideration. At their June 26, 2023 meeting, the City Council directed staff to draft an ordinance accepting a five-district map (identified as map #5) which would then become the City's electoral districts.
The deadline for approving a map and implementing district-based elections is July 20, 2023.
Following the first reading of the ordinance, the City Council will hold a second reading of the ordinance and vote to approve it at their July 17, 2023 meeting.
